Key Points
The most expensive iX1 BMW sells today lists at 268,000 CNY. The cheapest iX3 Neue Klasse lists at 269,900 CNY. Same money, a full generation apart.
The one model BMW did not cut, it replaced. The old iX3 listed at 405,000 CNY. The new one opens at 269,900 CNY, 33% lower.
These are list prices, including China's 13% VAT. Nobody pays them. Dealers are advertising the outgoing iX1 from 183,600 CNY, about 31% below its own list.
April in China, Before the Prices Landed
When I was in China in April, I met BMW people who were still working out how to price the iX3 Neue Klasse against local competition. I met buyers who were simply waiting for it, hoping the price would justify the wait. And I met taxi drivers and locals who explained to me first hand how strong BMW's reputation still is there.
The prices are out now. The Chinese response I have witnessed has been extraordinary, and you can see why.
I am not comparing China against Germany here. Only Chinese list prices, stacked against each other.
BMW's Twelve EV Lines Comparison in China, by Price and by Range

BMW's China BEV lineup ranked cheapest to priciest, full trim price range. Source: BMW China, August 2026. FX: 1 EUR = 7.80 CNY.
Twelve BEV model lines, cheapest to most expensive. The iX3 is the second cheapest line BMW sells in China.
The most expensive iX1 you can order is the xDrive30L. 268,000 CNY, about 34,400 EUR. 66.5 kWh. 524 km CLTC.
Here is what sits next to it for the iX3 Neue Klasse:
iX3 30L: 269,900 CNY. 77 kWh. 630 km. About 250 EUR more, 20% more range.
iX3 40L xDrive: 299,900 CNY. 86.9 kWh. 702 km. About 4,100 EUR more, 34% more range.
iX3 50L xDrive: 339,900 CNY. 113.4 kWh. 919 km. About 9,200 EUR more, 75% more range.
Every step up that ladder buys roughly three times more range than it costs. All EUR figures use 1 EUR = 7.80 CNY, August 2026.

CLTC range across all trims, same model order as the price chart. Source: BMW China, August 2026. WLTP is roughly 15% lower than CLTC, EPA roughly 25% lower (my observation)
Now the same twelve model lines in the same order, this time by CLTC range across every listed trim.
The iX3 owns both the widest span and the highest ceiling. At 919 km the top trim beats the next best BMW EV in China, the i5 eDrive40L at 713 km, by 29%. It beats the i7 M70L, which lists at 1,598,000 CNY, by 51%.
Its 113.4 kWh pack (gross battery capacity) is also the largest BMW sells in the country, ahead of the iX at 111.5 kWh and the i7 at 105.7 kWh.
Same Money, One Generation Apart
Set the two current prices side by side first, because both come straight from BMW's own August listings. The most expensive iX1 you can order lists at 268,000 CNY and does 524 km. The cheapest iX3 Neue Klasse lists at 269,900 CNY and does 630 km. Same money, a different generation of car.
Then there is the older number. In the January 2026 price file I keep, the top iX1 listed at 339,900 CNY, which is exactly what the top iX3 Neue Klasse costs today. That figure comes from my own records rather than a BMW page still online, so treat it as my file rather than a citation. The comparison above does not depend on it.
524 km then. 919 km now.
It is mind blowing.
72% Lower Emissions, on the Hungarian Built Car
Separately from the prices, I wrote a full breakdown of this car's lifecycle emissions, up to 72% below a comparable combustion car. That analysis covered the Hungarian built car, Debrecen. These are built in China, so the factory footprint behind them is a different question, and one I want to look at properly.

Manufacturing CO2 footprint and savings across BMW's ICE, PHEV and BEV models, from my lifecycle emissions analysis. Source: BMW.
That 72% is a lifecycle number, not a tailpipe one. It is LCA, it covers the car from raw material through manufacturing to the road, which is why the plant that builds it counts for as much as the drivetrain does.
The full emissions analysis, including where the 72% figure comes from, is here.
That emissions comparison is its own video:
At IAA, Up Close With the Car and the Pack
I sat in this car at IAA, extremely impressed with the technology and the interior. I was on the stand while the car was being shown, it got a lot of attention and gladly the battery pack manufacturer was also present, which I also covered in the video.

Screenshot from video - it was extremely well received

Screenshot from my Youtube Video - IAA - I explained the BMW - EVE Energy battery pack
That pack is where the Neue Klasse changes the story. This generation moves to large cylindrical cells, and the supplier is EVE Energy.
In this second video I covered both the EVE Energy pack inside the iX3 Neue Klasse and my first impressions of the car itself.
Waves of Price Cuts
The iX3's price is not a single bold move. It is the end point of a repricing that ran across BMW's entire Chinese electric lineup through 2026, in two separate waves that hit opposite halves of the range.
The first wave had already happened by early January:
iX1: down 21% to 24%, all four trims.
i7: down 9% to 16%, all four trims.
i4 M60 and i5 M60: down 18.5% and 12.8%.
And the previous generation iX3 was never discounted either, because BMW did something else with it. In January it listed at 405,000 CNY. It is gone from the August lineup, replaced by a Neue Klasse car that opens at 269,900 CNY.
Nobody Pays List Price
One thing to be clear about: these are list prices, including China's 13% VAT. Nobody pays them.
Dealers are currently advertising the outgoing iX1 from 183,600 CNY, about 31% below its own list price. I recently saw a Mercedes EQE discounted by as much as 45%.
But that is not the point. The point is where the list starts, because that tells you how BMW has radically shifted their pricing, and is offering an objectively much better car, with a really improved interior and tech.
All figures are CLTC. WLTP would sit about 15% lower and EPA roughly 25% lower.
The Data Behind This Article
The charts above are the summary view. Behind them I keep the full trim level file: every BMW model and trim on sale in China, with list prices, battery sizes, CLTC range, charging figures, and the January 2026 comparison column that the price cut analysis is built on. Twelve model lines, every trim - one sheet.
It exists because I rebuild it by hand. If you are benchmarking a vehicle or a charging product against what BMW just did in China, email me at [email protected] and tell me what you are trying to answer. I will tell you whether the file covers it before you pay for anything.
